Roasted Chick Pea Powder / Senaga Podi


Senaga podi is one of the spice powder (podi) i always stock up in my pantry.  I use it a lot in my cooking. I use it on most of the stir fries like tindora/ dondakay fry or guvar/ goru chikkuddu fry or chikkudi kayya fry etc.. it is very handy to have.  It goes very well with upma / idlli / dosa. It tastes very well with ghee on the powder.


  • Roasted chick peas 1Cup
  • Dry red chillis 8
  • Cumin seeds(Jeera) 1/2 Tsp
  • Garlic 5
  • salt
  • oil for frying


  1. Fry dryred chilies and cumin  in 1 tsp oil till brown. Cool.
  2. Grind all the ingredients to a fine powder with salt and garlic flakes.
  3. Store in air tight container.

Note- Garlic gives tons of flavor to this powder. If you don’t have garlic try not make it.

Serve this  spice powder with hot steamed rice and good amount of ghee… you dont want to stop eating.
