Simple Cashew Nut Upma / Jeedi Pappu Upma

I have to fix lunch box for my husband and I felt little lazy to do rice and curries. Upma is a saver on those lazy days, easy to cook and perfect for lunch box. Thanks to who ever created this recipe!!!

Ingredients-

  • 2 cups Rava / Sooji (Semolina)
  • 15 cashews Nuts (optional)
  • 1 inch Ginger chopped
  • 1 Onion slit length wise
  • 3 Green Chillies slit lengthwise.
  • 1 tsp each of Mustard Seeds,Urad Daal,Channa Daal
  • 2 dry red chilles
  • 3 tblsp Oil
  • Few curry leaves
  • 1 tblsp Ghee (Optional)
  • Lemon wedges

Directions

  1. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan and fry cashew nuts to golden color. Take them into a plate.
  2. Ad mustard seeds and allow them to splatter. Add channa, urad, dry red chillies and curry leaves to it and fry till they turn red.
  3. Add onion, ginger and green chilies. Sauté for 1minute. Add salt and let them sauté till onion is transparent.
  4. Add 4 cups water (1:2) and let it boil. Adjust the taste accordingly.
  5. With one hand continuosly stirring, add rava to water  stirring constantly till it becomes little thick. (with in 2mins)
  6. Take off from the heat add little ghee.
  7. Serve with cashew nuts, lemon wedge, senaga pod or spicy peanut powder.
